Budapest Wins Its EWHL Opener

Budapest Jegkorong Akademia celebrated a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Aisulu Almaty in their first game of the European Women’s Hockey League season on Friday evening. For the Kazakh team, this was already their third narrow defeat in a row.
While Budapest Jegkorong Akademia made its season debut in the EWHL on Friday evening, Aisulu Almaty was already playing its third match of the current campaign. The hosts from Hungary had the significantly better start: Despite a deficit in chances, Budapest secured a 2-0 lead by the 17th minute. A double strike in the second period by Cassidy Maplethorpe brought the Kazakh team back into the game. In a thrilling and hard-fought final period, Zsofia Chlepko secured the win for Budapest with her second goal of the evening, leading to a 5-4 victory.
